Farragut High School Banda

| Definitions of Common Band Terms |

Band Barbeque - held every year on the last day of advanced band camp, the barbeque is a social function of the band boosters. Everyone, especially freshmen and their families, is invited and encouraged to attend. The barbeque is a great time to see friends, meet other band families, and for freshmen and upperclassmen to mix. Note: you must purchase tickets to attend the barbeque.

Band Dance - held every year on the last Thursday of advanced band camp, this is a social function for band students only. There is no cost to attend, and it is held in the Commons of the main building at Farragut. Dress is casual; food and drinks are usually provided. I really recommend that everyone, especially freshmen, come to the dance, because it is one of the best parts of band camp.

Blitz Day - part of the annual fruit sale, Blitz Day involves sweeping the Town of Farragut in teams of 2 - 5 by individual neighborhoods. The plan is to hit every house in Farragut soliciting fruit sales.

Block Band - generally not a desirable thing to participate in. Everyone in the band lines up behind the trombones and marches up and down the field, sometimes playing, sometimes not. Legend has it that Mr. Rogers will hold a group in block band for an hour, but I have never personally experienced more than 15 minutes of it.

Blue Tub, The - Mr. Roger's "mailbox," located just inside his office in the band room. Anything and everything you need to leave for Mr. Rogers (and often the Boosters) can be left in this tub.

Concert Uniform - Band pants, jacket, citation cords, and cummerbund, as well as black socks and black shoes.

Drum & Bugle Corps Show - equivalent to a professional marching band. For the last several years, a Drum & Bugle Corps show has been held on the second Monday of advanced band camp. Everyone, including freshmen, is encouraged to attend the Drum & Bugle Corps show; a bus will be provided. Mr. Rogers will present information to all students at the beginning of band camp.

Fruit Sale, The - annual fundraising event for the Farragut High School Band. There are two components, individual sales and Blitz sales. We traditionally sell navel oranges, juice oranges, tangelos, and grapefruits from RiverSweet Citrus in Florida.

Full Uniform - requires band-provided pants, jacket, cummerbund, citation cords, and hat. Also requires approved black shoes (Lippo's shoes are all approved), BLACK SOCKS (in capitals because this is very important), white gloves, and suspenders.

Individual (Fruit) Sales - part of the fruit sale that occurs before Blitz Day. The individual sales gives students the chance to sell fruit to friends, relatives, and neighbors before the entire town of Farragut is covered.

Lippo's Music - Lippo's Music is located in Bristol, TN, and is where Mr. Rogers sends most uniform business. Lippo's stocks gloves, shoes, and all sorts of guard and majorette materials. Lippo's traditionally sends a van to band camp and can always be ordered from over the phone or through the mail. Contact Mr. Rogers for the address or phone number.

Summer Uniform - requires khaki shorts, band tshirt, white socks, and white shoes.

TBA - Tennessee Bandmaster's Association (or on some things Mr. Rogers sends out, "to be announced").

TMEA - Tennessee Music Educator's Association
