FHS Band Booster Meeting

January 10, 2006

Meeting called to order and attendees (27) welcomed at 7:00 PM by President Bates.

Secretary’s Report was motioned and seconded to accept report as listed on the band web site by C. Schroeder and M Johnson respectively.

D. Bates reported that there are left over drinks from concession sales. M. Gubanc will try to sell them to basketball concessions; however, currently she has not been able to make contact. She reminded the group that drinks have expiration dates, so maybe a loss to band if expired.

P. Shaw reported that about 100 magnets were sold at the middle and high school winter concerts.

D. Bates reported that about $1470 has been received from patron fund. $1500 was desired fund amount. A list of patrons can be seen on band web site. Still expect to receive a contribution form Kimberly Clark.

M. Evans stated that student insurance changes are being updated.

M. Johnson stated that L. Woods will replace her as uniform coordinator, since she will be relocating soon. Symphonic band students will be fitted along with new concert band students on Thursday. Reminded group to take uniforms to Concord Cleaners. Currently the band will get about $170 from Concord Cleaners for uniforms that were cleaned there.

D. Bates stated that the band has not received money from Check-fila calendars sales yet.

M Murphy stated that fruit sales and donations totaled $71,511.41. Fruit cost was $34,656.26 and profit was $34,654.36. $1,661 still to be collected. 29 teams participated in Blitz Day. 78 students did not participate in sale. 161 students participated in the fruit sale with an average sale of $432.

D. Bates informed group that we badly need officers and nominating committee for next year. D. Boykins will not be VP because of job relocation. Urgent need for banquet chairperson immediately!

D. Bates distributed and explained the Beef O’Brady’s cards, which will give the band 10% or sales on Tuesday nights if card shown. M Turner suggested that remaining cards be distributed to students. Beef O’Brady’s also gave band game cards, which will be used as door prizes at the band banquet.

Ms. Lewis gave director’s report:

-Christmas concert was a success. She thanked the boosters for generous directors’ Christmas gifts and their continued support.
-She is not sure of dates for band concert camp, but will check with Mr. Rogers.

-52 students plan to audition for Sr clinic at South Doyle. They will perform a prepared piece and site reading in addition to scales. Scales are not grades, but must be mastered prior to continuing auditions. Top scores will be placed in All State band.

-2nd payment for NY trip is due this week (by 1/13/06). She was not sure how many students had signed up to go. Stated that between the band, choir, and orchestra, enough parents had signed up as chaperones. If interested, check with Mr. Taylor about available seats.

-She informed the group that there is only two band this semester because not enough students playing some instruments such as tubas, etc.

-Both the concert and symphonic bands will attend the State concert festival at Austin Pea University on April 28, 2006.

-FHS will host the Middle area Festival on March 16 and 17, 2006. FHS students will serve as host /hostess.

-Recruiting process for middle school eight grade band students might include the showing of a DVD with current FHS band activities.

-She encouraged parents to continue participating.
