FHS Band Booster Meeting
July 25, 2006
Call to order and welcome by President S. Nichols at 7:30PM (41 attendees)

Secretary’s Report – M. Turner (Presented orally minutes form May 8, 2006 meeting) D. Bates motioned to accept minutes and C. Shroeder seconded the motion.
Guest Remarks: Dale Horst, Band representative for UT Alumni discussed upcoming concert September 7, 2006 at Tennessee Theater Tickets are $65.00 and money go to support the scholarship fund.
Directors’ Remarks- S. Taylor – This year’s marching show “Ritual Dances” consists of 4-5 dances with body movements and music. Students are doing a great job in band camp. Tonight students will remain until 10PM for election of officers. Annual dance will be held Thursday night (7/27/06) in the FHS Commons between 8 and 11PM. Party Boys will provide music. To accommodate dance, the evening session will began at 5:30 PM and end at 7:30 PM. Parents were welcomed to drop by the dance. Bar-b-cue will be Friday (7/28/06) between 5 and 6:30 PM in the commons. Band will present preview of show at 7:00PM. Block band parade to and from the field. Summer uniform will be worn (band t-shirts, kaki shorts, white socks and tennis shoes). Parents were thanked for help during band camp. First away game is August 25 at Knoxville Central. Parents were encouraged to check the calendar on the web site, which is updated daily. Competitions dates are Sept 30, Oct 7, and Oct 14. Band will not attend the Soddy Daisy game, which is scheduled on Oct 20, during fall break. Band camp ends at noon on Friday 7/28/06. Thursday after school practices will be help between 4 and 6PM beginning the first full week of school.
Treasurer’s Report- D. Klarner-Verbal report: $7K in booster account, $1K in ops account, 500 on ops saving account, and $4800 in booster savings account. Deposits of band fees are in progress. Request forms for reimbursement of money spent must be completed and approved by R. Rogers or S. Nichols. S. King motioned to accept the treasurer’s report and T. Heath seconded the motion. Budget is starting out lower than normal. School bus usage for football games costs about $9K. Additional costs for charter busses for two competitions.
Chairperson’s Report:
-Band Dance/Barbeque/Patron Fund-D. and L. Bates- Pizza and drinks will be served. Only bank students allowed. Parents are welcome. Buddy’s will prepare bar-b-cue. Food serving will end at 6:30 to allow time for clean up. Concert band members may attend both the dance and bar-b-que.
S. Carden explained that she sent out invitations to political representatives and school officials (27 total) for the bar-b-que and band preview show.
D. Bates explained that the patron fund involves requesting funds from area businesses. If any booster members know of new business, get names to Lenny.
-Chaperones- M. Evans- 4 away games. Travel schedule determined by R. Rogers. E-mails will be sent to chaperones. Chaperones will be choose=n form volunteer lists. Medical release forms are needed for each student. A volunteer is need for medical coverage between 1:30 and 3:30 PM on 7/26, see M. Evans after the meeting.
-Concessions- S. Nichols informed group that a concessions chairperson is still needed. Want about 40 people to serve during home football games.
-Directory/Computer Data Entry/Email- C. Boykins-Need e-mail addresses especially for freshmen parents/students. Will assemble and have ready for directory entry. Will prepare directory if no one else does.
-Parent T-Shirts- P. Shaw-shirts will be available for pick up on 7/28/06.
-Exhibition- S. Davys-distributed volunteer sheets, need any volunteers. Will schedule a meeting before Oct 12 to plan.
-Football Tickets- C. Schroeder-tickets can be picked up tonight. A portion of ticket price stays with the band.
-Summer Insanity- S. Farrell-Representatives will be there to solicit volunteers for the band.
-Uniforms- L. Woods-Lippo will be at FHS 7/27/06 to take orders for needed band items such as shoes, gloves, etc. Most students have been fitted with a uniform.
-Video Year Book / Photography- J. Budge & L. Stoner-DVD format will be used. L Stoner will take pictures of child per request. J. Bridges will try to assemble a video for 2005-2006 school year.
Miscellaneous:
D. Bates discussed the sell of moroccoes for sell $2 each. Must purchase 150. FHS band name will be on them and the color will be the school color. L. Jeter requested that we check with R. Rogers and FHS athletic director prior to purchase to see if noise level will be allowed at football games.
S. Davys explained the sell of chic-fila calendars ($5) each with band profit of $2 per sale. No capital output for the band. She reminded the group that coupons are usable after expiration date.
