FHS Band Booster Meeting
September 5, 2006
Welcome and Call to Order by President Nichols at 7:00 PM (63 attendees)
Director’s Remarks: Mr. Rogers introduces Howard Russell and Tommy Edwards. They discussed the potential purchase of lettermen jackets. Jackets have a 20-30% mark-up, which is less than other places. Gray sleeves with navy body, collar will have 2-stripes. Maybe girl’s collar will hang down in back. Orders made by end of September will be available for Christmas. 75% deposit must be paid with each order and the remanding 25% paid upon delivery. Jacket purchases will be discussed with band students next Thursday.
Mr. Rogers thanked parents for participation. He explained only a small portion of the show would be performed at the Bearden-Farragut game due to the can drive and other half-time activities. Band will be in full uniform. All competitions will be completed prior to fall break (Sept 30, Oct 7, and Oct 14). Oct 14 competition will be outside of Johnson City at Daniel Boone HS. Band will not attend the ball game during fall break (Oct 20). Knox County band exhibition will be held Oct 12 at FHS (12 HS bands). For home games, warm-up is at 6:00 PM followed by a concert in the memorial garden at 6:40PM. The band will parade to the football stadium at 7:00PM and pre-show starts at 7:20 PM. Plan to have all day band rehearsal on Sept 22 (10-1, 2-5), then departure to game.
Secretary’s Report: M. Turner-C. Schroeder motioned to accept the minutes as listed on the band web site. D. Bates seconded the motion.
Treasurer’s Report: D. Klarner-(Verbal report) $11, 301 at the end of August. Still have to pay Buddy’s for band bar-b-que. Money was deposited and parent shirts were paid for. Once official budget has been finalized, official report will be prepared.
Chaperone’s Report: M. Evans-E-mails will be distributed Monday regarding Sept 22 game chaperones.
Concessions’ Report: S. Ezell/K Westbrook/J DeVries –Prices are being compared. Signs have been located. E-mail will be sent when help needed. Need help passing out water to band students after half-time performance.
Exhibition: S. Davy-Committees will be in place by end of week. Concession committee will be large. Everyone will sit on home side of stadium. Most committees will only be needed one week Question from floor regarding the preparation and sale of DVDs??? Prizes for raffle still to be determined. Exhibition starts at 6:00 PM and ends around 9:30 PM. FHS will perform around 9:00 PM. Concessions and parking will begin at 5:30 PM. Plan to break up work responsibility, so nobody has to work five hours. Students will not be working!
Fruit: M. Murphy-Considered internet fruit sales, but this is not possible due to fraud. Fruit supplier gives 1% rebate to the band, after checking into this, the band will get $350 from 3-years ago. Blitz day will be set shortly. Last year Gross sales were about $70, 000 with a 50% profit. Remember, fees are $340 per student. $200 can be off-set by selling $660.00 worth of fruit. Previous costs have been $30 mixed box, $26 full box, and $18 half box. Information for this year will be place on the web site as soon as possible.
Season Football Ticket Sales: C. Schroeder-Sold 253 passes for a total of $4800. Each ticket cost $12, therefore profit of $1764. Last year profit was about $1500. Passes are still available.
Uniforms: L. Woods-Hats will be assigned on Thursday.
Pit Crew: D. Reinert-Currently pit crew consists of 20 people. Always room for more!
Parent Bus: S. Nichols-Gentry bus line will charge $15 per person. 50 people are needed to carry a parent bus. Order forms will be place on the web site. All seats must be pre paid. Money will be returned if there is not enough interest. Each bus will hold 57 people. Question from the floor regarding whether siblings can travel on the bus. Yes, but they also will have to pay $15 per seat. Will try to take bus to Ooltewah game.
Senior Night: D. Bates-October 27 (last home game). S. Carden, L. Pickens, and C. Boykins volunteered as the committee for senior night.
Miscellaneous:
-Star band magnets were distributed.
-Next meeting is October 3, 2006 at 7:00PM in the band room.
