FHS Band Booster Meeting Minutes- October 3, 2006
Welcome and Call to Order by President Nichols at 7:06PM (37 Attendees)
M. Murphy motioned to accept the September meeting minutes as presented on the band web site. T. Heath seconded the motion.
Fruit Sale: M. Murphy distributed a fruit sale schedule and urged all parents to let their children sale fruit and to help with this sale Prices are the same as last year. Sale starts on Oct 23 and ends Nov 17. Blitz Day is Oct 28. Fruit will be delivered to FMS on Dec 8. All money must be turned in Dec 15.
Treasurer’s Report (D. Klarner) verbal: Checks will be written to pay for band transportation.
Director’s Report (Mr. Rogers): Schedule for the SC trip was discussed. FHS will perform at 8:10PM. We are the first of 3 bands in our class. All bands in our class are very good. Discussed the competition on Oct 14...About 14 students can not attend, have nor decided if band will go. If they go maybe perform for comments only instead of competition. He explained his desire to end the marching season before fall break. Will inform students once decision is made. He stated that he is impressed with kids stepping up as leaders and players this year. He discussed the pride of the band. There was only 0.8 difference between Maryville (last competition leader) and FHS.
Discussed future schedule for this semester:
Oct 7 (homecoming) FMS 7th and 8th grade bands will join FHS band (WVMS band invited, but director choose not to participate)
Oct 13 Ootawah -itinerary will be posted next week(leaving as soon as buses return)
Oct 21- Soddy Daisy (band not attending)
Oct 28 -Band will perform entire show after game (senior night)
Nov 9 -Wood Wind Auditions
Nov 14 -Brass/Percussion Auditions
Dec 1 -Christmas Parade / Knoxville
Mr. Rogers explained competition grading scale upon request from a parent: 20% Musical, 20% General Effects, 15% Visual Performance, 15% Visual (people in right place), 15% Percussion,
10% Color Guard, and 5% Drum Major (Total 100%). 85-100% =1 (Superior), 70-85% = 2 (Excellent), and 55-69% = 3 (Good)
Knox County Exhibition (S. Davy): Exhibition starts at 6:30 PM Oct 12. Bands will perform 15 minutes each starting with the smaller band. Tickets are ready to be sent to other schools. Tickets at FHS will be sold for $5.00.People are still needed for concessions, plan to have two shifts 5-7:30 and 7:15 -9:30. Requested the need for two golf carts to transfer food/materials for band concession stand. A parent agreed to provide golf carts.
Chick-fil-a calendars are available for $5 each. Coupons are better this year. Requested each family buy 5 ($2 profit per calendar sold). Calendars will be sold at upcoming home games and exhibition.
Hospitality: Help needed to prepare sandwiches for competition. Call Mary Ann at 675-1766.
Directory: S. Boykins has completed assembly and L. Pickens will copy.
Uniforms: L. Woods requested that uniforms be cleaned prior to Friday night’s game. Mud and dirty shoes were noticed at the last competition.
Miscellaneous:
L. Pickens - Requested parents sign up for PTSO membership. PTSO will put out fruit sale bulletin.
S. Nichols discussed the parent bus to Ooltewah, only 18 people have signed up, will only take bus if 50 sign up. $15 per person.
E. Miles, a freshman parent, introduced himself and stated that he was not aware of the commitment and impact to the band by his child not being able to participate in the Oct 14 competition. He stated that more effort should be placed to insure incoming freshmen parents understand how the band work and the necessary commitments. Middle school band members should be added to FHS mailing list.
Next meeting November 6, (Monday) due to election day on Tuesday, at 7:00PM
S. Carden motioned to adjourn the meeting at 8:30 PM and P. Shaw seconded the motion.
