Minutes from the Farragut Band Boosters Meetings


FHS Band Boosters Meeting – Arpil 5, 2005


President Jim Johnson opened the April meeting and welcomed all in attendance.

Meeting Minutes: Darryl Boykins motioned to approve the meeting minutes, and Maria Gomez seconded. The March 2005 meeting minutes were accepted.

A/P Treasurer’s Report: Accounts Payable Treasurer Bob Browning stated there is $14,922.12 in the operations account and $17,220.85 in the Booster account.

OLD BUSINESS
Nominating Committee: Dinah Bates announced that next year’s Executive Board has a vacancy for the Vice President’s position.

Committee Chair Information Turnover: Jim Johnson requested all committee chairpersons turn in to him a job description for a file he is putting together. It will also be used for the new people filling these positions.

Band Video Update: Jim Johnson said that Brandon Campbell has about half of this year’s band video done. An order form will be put on the web site. He can use additional band photos that you have. The video will be available the last day seniors are at school.

Uniforms: Committee Chairperson Marie Johnson announced that students should start returning their CLEAN uniforms after April 27.Uniforms must be dry-cleaned first. Again, Mrs. Johnson encouraged people to dry-clean uniforms at Concord Cleaners as they will donate $2.00 per uniform to the band. Turn in your white dry-cleaning receipt to the blue tub.

Band Banquet: Committee Chairperson Kathy Newman announced that the May 12 band banquet’s theme is “Blue and Gray - Era of Excellence.” There was a discussion about possibly having a student dance after the banquet. Mrs. Newman will look into this further with Rothchild’s. The committee still needs donations for the door prizes. Banquet tickets will be about $15.00, and invitations/ticket order forms will be sent out soon.

Report on Fees: Lynda Johnson stated that about 50 students still have not paid band fees.

NEW BUSINESS
Blue Building Clean-Up Day:
Don Reinert will schedule a day in April to clean the blue storage building in the junior parking lot.

May Executive Board Meeting Date: Dinah Bates will let people know when in May the next Executive Board meeting will be held.

List of Incoming Freshmen: Mr. Rogers is in the process of getting information lists of incoming freshmen.

Summer Sectionals: Summer sectional dates and times are not available yet.

May Newsletter: Jim Johnson would like newsletter ideas and articles be sent to him by the end of May. He plans to include information on the band banquet, summer sectionals, and band camp dates.

Band Camp Dates: This summer’s band camp will be July 18 thru July 29.

4th of July Parade: The 4th of July parade is on Monday; therefore, practices will be held on June 29, June 30 and July 1, 10:00AM-Noon.

Senior Gifts: Pam Maddox and Mr. Rogers will meet about senior gifts next week.

Chaperones: Janice Moore has 10-12 seats available for chaperones on the Nashville trip April 26-27.

Hospitality: Maryann Reinert announced there will be a reception following the next concert. She requested 9th- and 10th-graders bring a dessert, and 11th- and 12th-graders bring drinks.

DIRECTOR’S REMARKS:
Mr. Rogers reported that Mr. Taylor’s band achieved a perfect score at Middle Area Concert Festival, which was held at FHS today. This superior rating qualifies his band to attend the 2006 State Concert Festival in Nashville. Symphonic Band also qualified with a superior rating at the UT Concert Festival at UT-Chattanooga.

Mr. Rogers discussed upcoming band dates:

April 13-16 Tennessee Music Educators All-State Clinic, Nashville – Seven band students will attend. Students will wear their concert uniforms for the performance.
April 21 Band Concert (FHS Auditorium)
April 23 Concert Festival at Union County --Ms. Lewis' band will perform at this festival.
April 26-27 State Concert Festival (Symphonic and Taylor bands) Blair School of Music (Ingram Hall),Nashville – Trip itineraries went home last week. Bands will leave after school on April 26 and overnight at Springhill Suites at the airport. On April 27, scheduled performance times are 11:20AM for Mr. Taylor’s band and at 5:10PM for Mr. Rogers’ band. The cost of $75 is due before they leave for Nashville.
May 17 Drum Major, Majorette and Guard Captian Tryouts
May 21 FHS Graduation (Thompson-Boling Arena) – Students have the option of taking a bus or getting their own transportation to graduation. Buses leave at 5:30.

Mr. Rogers announced next year’s marching theme will be “Elements of Intrigue.” He plans for another exciting fall marching season.

Winter Color Guard came in 9th place at an indoor competition in South Carolina last weekend.

Ms. Lewis’ band will rehearse after school 4-5:30PM on April 7.

An “All Knox County H.S. Marching Band Exhibition” will be at South Doyle next fall.

Mr. Rogers encouraged people to come to the band concert and stay for the whole concert.

Lynda Johnson motioned to close the meeting. Norma Cooper seconded and the meeting was adjourned.
