Minutes from the Farragut Band Boosters Meetings
Meeting was called to order by President Dinah Bates at 7:01 PM.
Attendees (51) were welcomed by the President.
Directors Remarks by Steve Taylor were given in lieu or Mr. Rogers because of the concurrent band camp.
Mr. Taylor informed the attendees of the current FHS band staff:

Mr. Taylor encouraged parent participation. He explained that the web site should be checked regular for relevant information and forms. He explained how the "Blue Tub" is used as a drop off site for all things that need to be turned in and other communications between the band boosters and band staff.
Mr. Taylor discussed the 2005 marching show "Elements of Intrigue", which is a 1940 mystery. The show will consist of a taxi driver, chasing, job, regret, and get-a-way scenes.
He informed the group that there would be 3 competitions; however, 4 dates were blocked off until available competitions have been scheduled and the three chosen that FHS will participate in. Exact dates and information will be provided as available.
Approval of May Meeting Minutes
President Bates asked that the May meeting minutes be approved as printed on the web site. Susie Carden made a motion to accept the May minutes.
Darryl Boykins seconded the motion.
Treasurer and Head Chaperone were not present; therefore no report was given.
Old Business
Kroger Cards: President Bates informed the group that she could not use her card during her last shopping trip at Kroger. She was told that a new program would be in effect after school starts. Others have experience the same situation. Linda Johnson asked people to keep the old card until this situation was cleared up.
Band Banquet: Kathy Newman reported that everything went well at the band banquet.
July 4th Parade: Linda Johnson has sent pictures to be posted on the web site. About 50 students participated.
Blue Building Clean up: Jim Johnson requested that parents help organize/clean-up this building. A time will be set.
Band Video: Brandon Campbell disused the need for someone to replace him in order to continue providing the video to band families. He stated that he will assist the new person. Someone needs to assume the responsibility prior to the BBQ, in order to start taking video orders there. He also stated that cost was the reason DVD was not produced. He explained that shooting starts with band camp and continues thru the concert season. He has already started filming band camp.
New Business
Band Camp: Cassie Miller, Linda Pickens, and Susie Cardin
Linda Pickens provided the report. Nurses needed next week between 1:30 and 3:30 PM daily. Still need help serving snacks and drinks during break. The volunteer list was circulated for additions participation.
Band Dance and BBQ: Dinah Bates is coordinating these activities. She encouraged parent participation. Everyone was reminded about the cost of the BBQ and request was made to get forms in along with money. Additional forms were available at the meeting.
Summer Insanity: August 2, 2005. Susie Cardin and Dinah Bates will be there with band information.
Season football Tickets: Pam Schroder will distribute tickets that have been purchased at the BBQ and at the first home football game in front of the band room. Profit for band so encourage others to buy. Passes sold by band are $5 cheaper than those sold by football team.
New T-Shirts:
Students will be passed out at the dance or the BBQ to all students who have paid their $140 fees. This T-shirt will be part of the official summer uniform (navy blue shorts, white socks and tennis shoes). NO Soffes or basketball shorts can be worn! Navy blue shorts only.
Parents T-shirts will carry the theme of the show. A picture was passed around by President Bates for review. These shirts will only be ordered once in order to minimize cost. Expect shirts to be delivered by first home game. Everyone must get his or her money in by August 5, 2005.
Car Magnets: New star magnets for band at a cost of $5.00. It will carry the Farragut Band name so it can be used by both high and middle school. Forms were available at the meeting.
Booster Jewelry: Janice Moore will be at summer insanity selling jewelry.
Golf Tournament: Bob Browning suggested this will be good income for the band and it will be a good way to get the community involved. Will potentially ask businesses like Pepsi, Wendy’s, etc to be sponsors. Plan to host this event in earl fall, will make sure that there is no UT home game on chosen date (maybe October 14), 2005. Bob and Barb Browning will co-chair the effort. Need sponsors, door prizes, workers, and other support. Potential location is Willow Creek gulf Course. Want to keep location in Farragut. Lanny Bates suggested that this effort be coordinated with the patrons’ fund, with respect to sponsorship.

Volunteers Sign Up: President Bates encouraged all to participate.
Officers & Committee Chairmen
President Bates asked the current officers to introduce themselves. She then expressed an urgent need for a VP, who will proceed her as President. She then discussed the need for class reps (one or tow people per grade level who will keep band parents informed, about 4 calls per year). She also discussed the need for a concert season liaison.
Linda Johnson gave a breakdown of band members by class.
Uniforms:
Sarah Daley reminded parents that if band students T-shirts are lost, they can be replaced for $10. They must be worn because they are part of the official uniform.
Marie Johnson stated that uniform replacements, along with extra shoes and socks had been purchased form Lippo. Replacement parts must be paid for, so encourage students to keep up with all uniform parts.
2005-2006 Budget
Jim Johnson, past President discussed the budget. He explained how the fruit, jewelry, T-shirt fundraisers contributes to the budget. Parents were encouraged to help their kids sell more fruit, since this is the biggest fundraiser. Knox County only paid about $700 last year. Jim explained the costs associated with the concert refreshments, student clinic travel, senior night, senior gifts at the banquet, and percussion and guard staff. Band banquet is one of biggest spenders. The need for new uniforms was discussed.
President Bates called for a motion to accept the budget ($73,222.00). Linda Johnson motioned to approve this budget and Carmen Fircloth seconded the motions. All body agreed.
Pit Crew
Kim Johnson expressed a need for more help on the pit crew. He stated that this was a very rewarding job.
Closing Comments and Adjournment
President Bates stated that the next meeting will be August 16, 2005 at 7:00PM. All other meeting will be held on the first Tuesday of each month.
President Bates asked for a motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:21PM. Linda Johnson motioned to adjourn the meeting and Peggy Shaw seconded the motion.
