Minutes from the Farragut Band Boosters Meetings
Meeting was called to order and attendees (29) were welcomed by Dinah Bates, President at 7:00PM.
President Bates asked for a motion to approve August meeting minutes as recorded. Motion was made by Carol Schroder and seconded by Susie Carden.
Treasurer and Pit Crew reports were not made because representatives not present.
OLD BUSINESS/COMMITTEE REPORTS
Kroger Cards (Carol Schroder)- New Program-band can purchase gift cards at 5% discount to be used for dollar to dollar purchases. Other alternative is to register at Kroger thru FHS and request from Mr. Reynolds that the band receive at least money equivalent to amount received from last year’s program (~1800). S. Carden motioned that Mr. Rogers talk to Mr. Reynolds, D. Boykins seconded the motion.
C. Schroder discussed the potential earning power of the gift cards. Forms were distributed to attendees for purchase of gift cards. Cards will be distributed directly by Carol not by mail on Thursdays and at Booster meeting. Carol choose not to distribution Friday night because of the amount of cash involved.
Season Tickets (Carol Schroder)- 219 tickets sold for cost of $4192 with a band profit of ~$1564.
T-shirts and Magnet Sale (Peggy Shaw)-T-shirt orders are due by 9/10/05. Magnets are still available for $5 each.
B Fruit Sale (Mike Murphy)-A hand out was distributed with relevant dates (Oct 19 sale starts; Nov 4 Blitz Pre Registration; Nov 5 Blitz Day 8:00AM til 3:00PM; Nov 18 orders and money must be turned in; Dec 9 Fruit delivered at FMS; Dec 10 Fruit pick up, December 14 all money due). Prices not set yet.
Directory/e-Mail (Daryl Boykins)-Directory ready for distribution. E-mails will be sent on Wed. M. Turner suggested band web-site be used more that multiple e-mails since it is updated daily by Mr. Taylor. Mr. Rogers polled the group to see how many used the web site daily, about 80% or attendees do.
Volunteers (Sue Muzzy)-All band parents were encouraged to support the band by volunteering. Concert liaison needed.
Chaperones (Margaret Evans) -Janice Moore is working on list. Chaperones still needed. Schedule for year was requested from the floor, but Margaret said not available. Mr. Rogers suggested parent bus be used.
Coupon Book Sales (Sarah Davey)-FHS office stated that only 3rd block can sell coupon books., FHS policy. Money must be handled by Knox county employees . Sarah did not speak directly with Mr. Reynolds. Mr. Taylor has 3rd block theory class, a small class. Mr. Rogers will discuss further with Mr. Reynolds. He stated the need for the additional money due to the increased travel costs for example ~$1700 for Bradley County game. Sale started September 22.
Newsletter (Linda Pickens )- Newsletters were mailed last week.
Concessions (Mary Ann Gubanc)-Fist game money was invested to purchase items. ~$1000 profit was made from first two games. She suggested that a table be set up outside to sell drinks since location of concession stand not easily visible. Last year there was a sign. Margaret Evans suggested that a coke stand be used outside. Mary Ann questioned whether the band had received credit for returned coke product last year. Men’s room out of order last week. Mr. Rogers will check discuss with Mr. Carol.
Web Site (Steve Taylor)-Boosters were encouraged to get info to Mr. Taylor. Game agendas are on the site for the semester. Changes will be made as required on a daily basis.
Golf Tournament (Bob &Barb Browning, Daryl Boykins)-Companies have been contacted concerning sponsorship. Date has been changed until March (potential March 27,Monday after Spring Break). Not sure of location. Jim Johnson suggested committee be formed and that tentative date is poor. Tim Earith motioned that the tournament be held on Friday instead of Monday. Stan Crawford seconded the motion. The booster body agreed.
Patron Fund (Lanny Bates)-Letters are being prepared.
Video Yearbook -Lew Stoner agreed to take pictures, but does not have time to assemble year book. Dinah Bates requested interested person contact her bout this volunteer opportunity.
NEW BUSINESS
Sarah Davey suggested that we sell chick-fil-a coupon calendars for $5 each. $2 profit for band. Mr. Rogers suggested that this issue be tabled until he has discussed school coupon book sales with Mr. Reynolds.
Director’s Remarks (Ron Rogers)-Read a thank-you note from last weeks band director to boosters, and restated the importance if booster support and volunteering. Informed boosters that budget was $120K.
Sept 20 at South Doyle-Knox County marching exhibition. Exhibition will be on PBS and Knox County Schools TV on a delayed basis. Tickets will be available for $5, money stay with selling school. Place money in envelope and send to blue tub by students.
October 8 (Heritage Volunteer Classic), 15, and 29 Competitions dates. Overnight trip undecided. Maybe in SC. ~ 7K for 5 charter busses. Peggy Shaw requested that Mr. Rogers place a etiquette guide on the web site for competitions. He agreed. He also informed the group that this was available in the band hand book.
Band will be in uniform for Bearden game and henceforth.
