Minutes from the Farragut Band Boosters Meetings
President Jim Johnson opened the October meeting at 7:03 p.m.
Meeting Minutes: Darryl Boykins motioned to accept the minutes as written. Rosemary Wheeler seconded, and the September meeting minutes were accepted.
Treasurer’s Report: Tracy Sawyer said that she will give a copy of the Treasurer’s Report later to anyone who wishes. Copies were not available at the meeting.
OLD BUSINESS
Booster Buttons: Dinah Bates has decided to pursue band student picture buttons next year since we are already well into this football season.
Booster Jewelry: Barb Browning has taken over as committee chairperson of booster jewelry. Janice Moore and Ms. Browning presented approximately $858.00 from sales to a pleased Jim Johnson. Her plan is to continue selling at various sporting events, not just football.
Band Shirts: Joan DeTar sold 88 shirts, nine caps and four visors. If you ordered a shirt, please pick it up from the “blue tub.”
Optional Fundraiser: President Jim Johnson said he made a presidential decision concerning recent portrait sales.
Booster Welcome Committee: Committee chairperson Ellen Weaver asked that anyone who would like to help meet and greet the visiting band to come to the junior parking lot at 6:15 Friday night.
Kroger Commitment Cards: Ellen Weaver passed out Kroger commitment cards. To the delight of the members, she announced that the boosters recently received their first donation check of $699.00.
Band Directory: Band directories are available on top of the piano in the band room.
NEW BUSINESS
Band Fruit Sale: Mike Murphy stated that a lot of fruit was lost from the recent hurricanes in Florida, but, to the relief of President Jim Johnson, our fruit supplier will be able to fill our orders. There will be about a 50% increase over last year’s prices. Jim Johnson said the Executive Board will get together to determine exact prices later. Senior Night: The October 15 game is “Senior Night.” Senior band students and their parents will have their pictures taken on the field. Students will tell their parents where to go and stand.
Halls Exhibition: There has been positive feedback on the band exhibition at Halls H.S. Our band boosters made a nice $830 from ticket sales. Possibly a concert exhibition will be held next term.
Volunteer Lists: If committee chairpersons need volunteers, please use the volunteer lists that Jim Johnson sends. He emails updates as he gets new names.
Concert Liaison/Communication: Sherri Barr is getting the word out on the fruit sale and concert band audition dates.
Sick Band Student: Recently a band student was diagnosed with a malignant tumor. Jim Johnson would like the band boosters to give him a video rental gift certificate. Kathy Beard motioned to let the Executive Board decide the amount of the certificate. Lynda Johnson seconded.
Expenses: Due to marching band expenses, it is necessary to temporarily transfer $4,000.00 to Mr. Rogers’ account. After the fruit sale fundraiser, the money will be transferred back. Lynda Johnson motioned to transfer the needed money; Peggy Shaw seconded. The transfer will be made.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Newsletter: The most recent newsletter was mailed Friday, October 1.
Football Tickets: Maria Gomez pleased booster parents by stating that the boosters made $1,744.00 profit from football season pass sales.
Patron Fund: Lanny Bates has mailed patron fund letters.
Chaperones: Janice Moore asked that Saturday’s competition chaperones gather after the meeting.
DIRECTOR’S REMARKS
Competitions: Competition information was sent home with students last week. More details will be available on the band web site.
October 9—Greeneville, TN— FHS will perform 19th out of 20 bands, 7:10pm at Tusculum College.
October 16—Morganton, NC—(Freedom H.S.) More details will be sent home later. Students will spend the night at Super 8 Motel in Asheville, NC.
October 30—Westminster, SC—Performance times and details about this day tip will be sent home later.
Playoffs: Farragut High School will be in the playoffs. If the band travels to a play-off game, the school will pay the travel expenses. Let Mr. Rogers know if there is a conflict.
Report Cards: Band grades were lost in the computer. They will appear on the next interim report.
Portrait Sale: $825 was made from selling portrait sittings, and it will be applied to the overnight trip.

Band CD: This year’s band CD will be recorded on October 21 in the auditorium.
Competition Meals: Competition meals were discussed.
