Minutes from the Farragut Band Boosters Meetings


FHS Band Boosters Meeting – November 1, 2005


Meeting was called to order and attendees (34) were welcomed by Dinah Bates, President, at 7:00PM.

President Bates asked for a motion to approve October meeting minutes. Correction made by M. Johnson, Junior Clinic try-out at Maryville Middle School. Motion was made and seconded by D. Boykins and Peggy Shaw respectively to approve minutes with correction.

J. Johnson made treasurer’s report. Budget Income and expense report was distributed. Jim reminded boosters to use tax-exempt forms. Budget deficit due to purchase of magnets. Need to sell magnets. S. Carden motioned to accept budget and M. Turner seconded motion. Motion was carried by vote from the floor.

Carol Wiberley displayed band apparel. She will be set up next week in the cafeteria. Sweats are $45. Varsity letter jackets are available for all students after 1 year of participation. The shop is behind Papa Johns’ Pizza. A few dollars for each sale will go to the band.

OLD BUSINESS /CHAIRPERSON REPORTS:
Concession (M. Gubanc) –Everything is ready for the Bearden/Farragut play off game. Prices will be slightly raised.

Magnets (P. Shaw) – Magnet sale encouraged ($5 each) still lots available. Permission has been granted by Mr. Danner to sell at middle school concert. Several volunteers needed for this sale.

Jewelry (B. Browning) –Between $200 and $300 sold before games plus additional orders. Money will be submitted at next meeting.

Fruit Sales (M. Murphy) – A letter was distributed with relevant information. Parents’ help was requested for Blitz Day and for unloading/sorting fruit. Blitz Day activities were explained.

Chaperones (M. Evans) – J. Evans stated that E-mails will be sent out for Veterans Day and Christmas parade.

Uniforms (M. Johnson) –Uniforms are being repaired as needed. Urged parents to use Concord Cleaners because band gets $2 per uniform.

Kroger Cards (C. Schroeder) –Reminded parents to link their Kroger Cards to Kroger’s’ Care at FHS. Bar code is on web site.

Calendars (S. Davy) – Chick-fil-a coupon calendars (about $25 worth of coupons per calendar) available for $5 each. $2 profit per calendar. Sale did not go well because of poor communications with parents. Sold 158 calendars and a donation of $15. Total Band Profit to date ~$333. Sale will end on November 7, 2005. An extra $5, so a calendar will be given to the band room. Calendars will be sold prior to the Bearden/Farragut play-off game and at the game in the concession stand.

Web Site (S. Taylor) –Request was made for all booster committee leads to make sure info on web site is correct.

Golf Tournament (B. & B. Browning – D. Boykins) – March 31, 2006 - Handouts were distributed. Difference in hole sponsor and sponsor were explained. Signs will be placed at each hole with hole sponsors’ information. Each hole can have multiple sponsors. Sponsors refer to corporations. Sponsors can attend tournament for networking and marketing purposes. Sponsors and hole sponsors are the moneymakers. A. Kamisky will place an ad in the paper. Deadline for sponsors is 1 week before tournament. Currently no expense to band. Printing of signs for sponsors will be initial major expense. Interested persons should contact Bob or Barb Browning.

Competition Hospitality (M. Reinert) - Food provided for competition travel. Mr. Rogers and D. Bates say job was well done.

Pit Crew (J. Johnson)- showed trophy, pictures on web site. Thanked parents for participation.

Patron Fund (L. Bates) – Letters have gone out. They were focused on those businesses that have given before and new businesses in the area.

Senior Night (D. Bates) – Everything went ok.

NEW BUSINESS:

Director’s Remarks (Mr. Rogers) – Thanked parents for support during marching season. Stated that the NC competition performance was great!

Knox County exhibition was on Comcast Cable last weekend; it was very noticeable how much the band has improved over the year.

Q: Will FHS host the next Knox County Exhibition?
A: Mr. Rogers stated that he will request the exhibition be held at FHS; we have the needed seating capacity. Football Travel costs about 5K for the year.

All travel plans and agendas will be posted on the band web site.

Spring Break Trip, New York – Includes all FHS music department. March 24-27, 2006. Information meeting November 3, 2005 at 7:00 PM in band room.

Concert Band(s)- auditions November 10 (brass and all others) and November 15 (woodwinds)

JR clinic – auditions November 19, Maryville Middle School; Clinic- December 2-3

Sr. Clinic - auditions January 14, S. Doyle HS; Clinic -February 2 –4 Gatlinburg

Band will participate in the Vet’s Day parade on Nov 11 - Knox Co pays for transportation.

Band will participate in Christmas Parade on December 2 (participation optional).

Mr. Taylor motioned that meeting be adjourned at 8:08 PM and M. Turner seconded motion.
